Jorge Vallejo arrived in Miami with his family from Guantánamo, Cuba, in 1965 on a rented boat. He worked as an obstetrician and gynecologist and left an indelible mark on the Miami community. One of her sons, Carlos, would also become a doctor. Jorge, retired, and Carlos, working on the front lines of the fight against coronavirus, were hospitalized on Father’s Day, sick with covid-19. Father and son died five weeks apart. Ana María Mejía spoke with the family of Vallejo doctors, who are facing this hard loss.
