Cuban authorities threaten those who disclosed the photos of the dead baby in Santa Clara

Grimaldo Pérez Ventura, director of the Villa Clara Sports Initiation School (Eide), washed his hands of the recent violent death of a newborn, the son of one of the school’s basketball students. during a meeting meeting held this Sunday, the official declared that he did not find out about the “situation” until it was too late and described as “outrageous” the fact that no family member or teacher was aware of the pregnancy of the 17-year-old girl.

“We Cubans divulge everything,” lamented the manager – whose words were recorded and reproduced by the channel América TeVé–, alluding to the information about the death of the infant and the photos of his corpse that circulated on social networks. He admitted that he had faced embarrassment from his students before, but that he had always looked for a “variant” to solve the problem.

In addition, he attacked the group of “100 workers” of the Eide who went to the scene and reported the situation. “From them came the photo that is in the world,” he said, adding that the Ministry of the Interior was still carrying out the investigation. “We do not have anything official in hand,” she settled.

“We are going to assume it with all the courage in the world,” Pérez explained, and explained that the young woman involved was a 12th grade student, whom she described as an “excellent student and athlete,” who did not comment on her condition even with her roommates, to whom, “inexplicably”, the pregnancy also went unnoticed.

The case came to light due to several complaints from users on social networks and a publication by the activist Diasniurka Salcedo Verdecia, who shared the out-of-focus photograph of the newborn

The educational institution had called an urgent meeting of parents for this Sunday where the “responsibilities” of the event would be defined. In a brief statement on his Facebook profile, he had mentioned the “situation that arose with an extra-hospital delivery of an athlete from the basketball team,” but he avoided offering details about the perpetrator of the crime and the conditions in which the body was found. . They also did not reveal if there were any detainees.

The case came to light due to several complaints from users on social networks and a publication by the activist Diasniurka Salcedo Verdecia, who shared the out-of-focus photograph of the newborn lying on the grass. “This is what the Police should do, watch out to avoid this type of thing, not be watching the opposition,” she wrote in her post.

Days later, there is still no official version, while various hypotheses of what happened have circulated on networks. Supposedly, the young woman gave birth at night and threw the newborn from the second floor of the school. The baby was found in the early hours of Thursday, still alive, and was transferred to the José Luis Miranda Pediatric Hospital, where he died.

Salcedo Verdecia shared some screenshots of a conversation with a source close to the school, who assures that the newborn had several fractures.

In December 2022, two cases of violent deaths of newborns shocked the island. The first was found on a box and covered in bloody rags in the Mulgoba neighborhood of Havana, while the second newborn was located in a state of putrefaction in the province of Las Tunas.
