Miam-Dade County authorities arrested a man of Cuban origin accused of committing grand theft and fraud against his partner.
According to the local media America TeVéthe detainee was identified as George Carlos Rodríguez, 58 years old, who appeared in court this week.
The police report indicates that the subject illegally seized property and money belonging to his ex-partner, citizen Leonor Kou Kou.
According to the aforementioned media, the Cuban and the victim maintained a romantic relationship between 2009 and 2019, during which time the woman acquired two apartments at 3681 Northeast 170th Street, in North Miami Beach.
After the breakup, the subject transferred the ownership of these properties and that of a Mercedes Benz car to his name, this with the help of some fraudulent documents. Likewise, he would have withdrawn about 35,000 dollars (USD) from a bank account belonging to the woman, which worsens the charges against him.
Florida law determines that the sentence for grand theft increases depending on the value stolen, and considering that in this case it involved property, a car and more than $35,000, the severity of the charge against Rodríguez is significant.
If the theft is valued at USD 100,000 or more, the maximum penalty is 30 years in prison and fines of up to USD 10,000. In the case of thefts valued between 20,000 and 100,000, the maximum sentence is 15 years in prison, while thefts valued between 300 and 20,000 USD can receive a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison.
At the moment, the subject remains detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Detention Center in Miami-Dade County, with a bail of $50,000 that has not been paid.
