Cuban Arrested as Suspect in Murder of New York Art Gallery Owner in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

A Cuban was arrested as a suspect three days after Brent Sikkema, a veteran New York art gallery owner, was found dead with 18 stab wounds in his summer apartment in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Sikkema, a 75-year-old American, was co-owner and founder of the gallery “Sikkema Jenkins & Co.” in Chelsea, Manhattan. The victim I lived most of the year in New Yorkbut he called his apartment in Rio de Janeiro an urban “oasis,” he said CBS News.

In a similar case, in January of last year Eric E. Garvin, a lawyer from Staten Island (NYC), was shot dead near his Airbnb in Santiago, Chile, one day before leaving that city en route to Argentina. He was missing for several days, until the police in the Chilean capital confirmed his identity with the help of the FBI.
