Cuban influencer Manuel Milanés was killed and wounded while driving near the community of Ave María, a census-designated area in Collier County, this Thursday morning, August 22.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to an emergency call around 8:50 a.m. that a man had been shot while driving at the location.
A source close to the winner, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed to the independent media Cuban newspaper that the injured person was Milanés, who was taken to a nearby hospital.
The authorities indicated that the photos came from inside another vehicle, which fled after the incident.
According to the media NBCCollier County authorities already have one person.
The police report says the suspect fled the scene in a car and led officers on a chase to the area of Everglades Boulevard N and 60th Avenue NE in Golden Gate Estates.
This chase was supported by several police air units, which stopped the subject from escaping.
The shooter attempted to flee on foot, but was eventually apprehended by police, who used K-9 units to locate him. The sheriff’s office announced the arrest at 11:30 a.m., but did not release the identity of the suspect.
The previously mentioned media indicated that a primary school near the site where the events took place was closed and placed under a precautionary protocol, this to ensure the safety of the students. Shortly after this, the police confirmed that there was no danger to the school or to the residents of the area.
As for Milanés, the media emphasized that he was sent to a nearby hospital, but nothing was reported about his health.
