In Cuba, there was another power outage across the country this morning. That was a few hours after the delivery after the break from yesterday had started again. It is not yet clear how long today’s power outage will last.
The cause of the outage was not disclosed. They may be related to the lack of fuel that the island needs to generate its power. To save fuel, the government sent non-essential civil servants home before their dismissal yesterday. The schools also closed.
Cuba had experienced a power outage for a period that could last for hours, but it did not affect the entire island.
Problems for weeks
Cuba received much less oil last year than in the past from its three main suppliers: Venezuela, Russia and Mexico. She has to buy oil and oil products on the short-term market, where much more must be paid.
In addition to fuel shortages, Cuba is struggling with increasing demand for electricity and maintaining the delayed power grid.
The government also points to the US branch. The American trade embargo makes it more difficult for Cuba to get oil and spare parts for its power plants.
