Cuba wants to demand that the US eliminate the Cuban Adjustment Act – 2024-04-17 14:53:27

Cuba and the United States will hold a new round of migration talks this Tuesday, April 16, and the official media have already advanced some of the demands that the regime will have during this session.

According to the information shared, the Cuban delegation will be led by Vice Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío Domínguez, while the US delegation will have the Deputy Undersecretary of State of the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, Eric Jacobstein, at the head.

Through a statement, the deputy director general of the General Directorate of the United States of the Minrex, Johana Tablada de la Torre, stated that among the main topics that will be discussed at this meeting are the recurring issue of the economic embargo and its alleged worsening due to part of the USA.

Likewise, the regime will demand the resumption of the granting of non-immigrant visas in Havana, and the right of travelers from third countries to visit Cuba freely.

Regarding this last aspect, the Cuban government has demanded that the right of these tourists to visit Cuba without reprisals be respected, since the Island is on the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

The statement shared on the page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) indicates that the Castro government will call on the United States to suspend the use of federal funds to finance digital media and platforms, blaming independent media for stimulating illegal migration.

Additionally, it was indicated that the government of the Island will demand the end of the Cuban Adjustment Law, as well as the return of those Cubans who have illegally emigrated to the United States since January 12, 2017, and those who have been intercepted at sea. .

“That the US government complies with all elements of the agreements, including the return to Cuba of all Cuban citizens who migrated irregularly since January 12, 2017, and all those intercepted at sea; as well as the elimination of privileged treatment for Cubans who emigrate irregularly and the work to eliminate regulations and laws that, such as the Cuban Adjustment Law, stimulate irregular emigration,” the statement said.

Everything seems to indicate that the Cuban government has begun to feel the pressure of being in charge of a country that is becoming empty with the passing of the years, especially considering that the majority of those who emigrate are the youngest in the population. population.

In that sense, the Castro authorities see the Cuban Adjustment Act, which offers permanent residence to Cubans who manage to legally spend a year in US territory, as an incentive that makes their citizens want to try their luck abroad.

However, it seems that the regime is forgetting about the large portion of Cubans who decide to emigrate and stay in countries other than the United States, which suggests that people do not escape because of “incentives,” but to escape repression and the shortage that exists on the Island.
