“Cuba to Continue Covid-19 Vaccinations as Preventative Approach Despite WHO Declaration, Says Health Minister”

Cuba will maintain vaccinations against covid-19 “as a preventative approach”, although the World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus, causing the pandemic, is no longer an international public emergency, the island’s authorities ratified.

“At the moment there is an increase in acute respiratory diseases in the country and this has led to emphasis on the study of the people at greatest risk, among whom cases of covid-19 emerge, although as a trend it is not leading to severe complications,” reported the head of Health, Dr. José Ángel Portal.

The minister made the statement at a government meeting that evaluated the behavior of the disease in April and agreed to apply “a preventive approach that includes the vaccination scheme of anti covid-19 reinforcement.

Cuba is the only country in Latin America and the Caribbean that has its own vaccines against this disease, it has immunized its entire eligible population from two years of age with them and has carried out several booster vaccinations.

Covid-19 is no longer a planetary emergency, but it is still in force
