Cuba rejects sanctions imposed on Venezuelan officials

Havana. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Thursday rejected the imposition of new unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela by the US government, and demanded their complete lifting.

The president warned in X that “imperialism tries to impose itself on the sovereignty of other countries, but the Homeland of Bolívar will triumph.”

Through that social network, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, also expressed his rejection of the measures applied against Venezuelan public officials.

Rodríguez demanded that this type of action, aimed at destabilizing the Bolivarian and Chavista Revolution, be stopped.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil on Thursday denounced the sanctions as a new act of aggression by Washington and further evidence of its total disregard for international law and the self-determination of peoples.

He added that with this “rude act” the White House “seeks to ingratiate itself with a political class that has resorted to fascist and violent practices to overthrow, without success, Bolivarian democracy.”

In this way, Caracas responded to the decision of the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the United States Department of the Treasury to sanction 16 Venezuelan officials, arguing that they are “aligned with (Nicolás) Maduro, allegedly obstructed the elections and violated the civil and human rights of the people.”

The list includes leaders of the National Electoral Council, the Supreme Court of Justice, military officers, intelligence officers and members of the government.
