Former Soviet intelligence officer, economic and military analyst Yuri Shvets on his YouTube channel told about the information published by the publication covering the activities of the Pentagon. We are talking about Cuba’s plans to send its special forces to Belarus, which could cause a big stir in the West. According to the expert, a conference was held in the United States about a week ago, in which American correspondents and Cuban emigrants took part. It was at this event that the Cubans announced that Belarus and Cuba had signed an agreement according to which Cuban special forces would arrive in Belarus.
“There is no other direct confirmation of this message yet,” Shvets noted.
But then the analyst remembered that in May 2023, on one European website, with reference to BelTA (the news agency of Belarus – ed.), it was reported about a meeting between representatives of the defense ministries of Belarus and Cuba. Then the parties announced the strengthening of mutually beneficial partnerships. And it was the first statement of its kind since last March, when Patrushev traveled to Cuba and agreed to intensify military relations between Havana and the Kremlin.
“Such a meeting made it clear that the cooperation between Moscow and Havana, and now Minsk, plus the cooperation that has long existed between Belarus and China, is openly aimed at the repressive sphere. This is stated in the Pentagon publication,” the expert said.
What is known about the Cuban special forces? As noted by Shvets, this is one mobile brigade, or military unit 4895 called “Black Wasps”. During the Soviet era, the armed forces of Cuba fought quite effectively in Angola on the side of the Marxist government, but they did not help this regime win the war, and with the collapse of the Soviet Union they went home.
“So we are closely following the development of these events. If the Cubans reappear, it will have a deep symbolic meaning. This means that Moscow will again use Havana, as it used to in Africa. And uhit will be a major escalation, and I think that partly for such purposes, to deter such encroachments, USS Gerald Ford strike force was deployed in the Mediterranean Sea“, the analyst suggested.
