Washington. The Santa Clara Bombers of Cuba opened this Thursday with a 4-1 victory over their rival from the Czech Republic, in the 2024 Little League Baseball World Series, held in the American city of Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Coming from behind! Cuba turned the game around against the Czech Republic and secured their place in the round of this competition, which started yesterday and will run until August 25.
The victory is a well-deserved reward for the Antillean team, which did not back down and pulled out all the stops to overcome a difficult start to the match, where the European and African champion took the lead with a first and only run in the entire match.

But Everaldo Machado’s team had an excellent team-building job with starter Deivi (El Tati) Hernández and relief pitcher Yan Espinosa, who was essential to turning the score around.

The Santa Clara team earned its ticket to Williamsport after being crowned champions of the national series on March 2 by beating Sancti Spíritus.
This is Cuba’s second appearance in such competitions. Last year, Bayamo also made its debut in these competitions with a resounding victory over Australia, although they did not advance to the final of the tournament.
The current edition of the competition has 20 teams participating. According to the rules of this traditional sporting event, the system is double elimination. A team can lose a game and stay in the fight, but the one that has two consecutive failed games says goodbye and returns home.
In another match of the day, Japan defeated Puerto Rico 11-0.
The Little League World Series, founded in 1947, is an annual baseball tournament for children ages 10 to 12, held in the eastern United States.
