Cuba closes Saturday with 31 new cases of COVID-19 and no deaths for 17 consecutive days

Cuba closed the day on Saturday, May 28, with 31 new cases of COVID-19 diagnosed and without reporting deaths for 17 consecutive days.

According to the report issued by the Ministry of Public Health, at the end of yesterday, 1,277 patients were hospitalized, of which 1,049 were suspected, 32 were under surveillance, and 196 were confirmed active.

For COVID-19, 5,972 samples were taken for surveillance on the day, with 31 being positive. Since the start of the pandemic, on March 11, 2020, the country has accumulated 13,857,121 samples and 1,105,258 positives.

Of the 31 new cases:

  • 263 were contacts of confirmed cases, 2 with a foreign source of infection and 3 without a specified source of infection.
  • Of the female sex 17 and of the male sex 14.
  • Three asymptomatic cases (9.7%) were reported, accumulating 146,959, which represents 13.3% of those confirmed to date.
  • By age groups: under 20 years old (12), from 20 to 39 years old (6), from 40 to 59 years old (4) and over 60 (9).

Of the 1,105,258 patients diagnosed with the disease:

  • 196 remain hospitalized, 192 of them with stable clinical evolution.
  • 8,529 deaths accumulate (no deaths reported on the day)lethality of 0.77% vs 1.19% in the world and 1.74% in the Americas.
  • Two evacuated, 57 returned to their countries.
  • On the day there were 31 discharges, accumulated 1,096,474 (99.2%). 4 confirmed serious patients are treated in intensive care.
