In the intense day held at Plaza V Centenario in the Old Town of this capital, which included talks, theatrical, dance and musical performances, craft shows, primary health care and gastronomic offerings, among other attractions, the island’s diplomats shared a varied program.
Among the speakers at the particular commemoration of International Autism Day, the representative on the isthmus of the Cuban Ministry of Education, Alfonso Cruz, commented on the strategies that his country deploys to care inclusively for those diagnosed with the spectrum disorder autistic (ASD).
Cruz highlighted as key principles the defense of the rights of these people, respect for diversity and the efforts that are developed to deepen constant learning, as well as active participation in these special programs for educators and the family.
The embassy was joined in a pavilion adorned with images and information on tourism and other spheres, members of the Martí Association of Cuban Residents in Panama, such as the workers of the La Guantanamera restaurant who offered typical dishes.
The young choreographer and dancer Nataly León also delighted the public with Afro-Cuban dances allegorical to motherhood.
Cuba shared space in the second edition of the so-called Blue Culture Festival, together with other institutions such as the United Nations World Food Program; the Social Security Fund and the Brazilian embassy, among other guests.
Regarding this appointment, the director of Caspan, Aníbal Miranda, explained to Prensa Latina that they intended to mix messages of love, inclusion, culture, art and equal opportunities in this month dedicated to the condition of autism.
Marilena González, from Caspan public relations, also added that the initiative made it possible to sensitize more citizens throughout the month of April with respect for the rights of autistic people and also awaken skills in children, according to their preferences.
The closing of the day for autism was attended by personalities such as the Vice Minister of Culture Gabriel González; and the Cuban ambassador in Panama, Víctor Cairo, among others.
