In the midst of the economic, energy and health crisis that Cuba is experiencing, the regime organized an activity with thousands of people, with the intention of breaking a “Casino Wheel” world record.
On the afternoon of this Sunday, May 5, the authorities took almost 3,000 dancers to the Havana boardwalk, where they gathered to break the record for the largest number of people dancing the aforementioned style at the same time.
The event was held within the framework of the National Son Day, and had the participation of more than 2,900 dancers, coming from all over the Island, and although it was not specified what payment they would receive, it is clear that they represented an investment on the part of of the dictatorship, between clothing, accessories and transportation.
According to Luis Llamo Castillo, considered the ambassador of Son in Cuba, the casino dancers “envision solutions beyond adversities, infecting everyone with their magical rhythm,” an image with which the government intends to sell the project.
And the event seeks to register in the Guinness Records next November, as part of the International Project initiative “Retaking the Son Bailando Casino”, a method of official propaganda that sells the cultural image of Cuba and masks the needs of the country.
Held in Plaza La Piragua, the event had the support of several state institutions, which spared no expense for the organization, with personalized t-shirts, and transportation for the thousands of people involved, including dancers, photographers, coordinators, all in the midst of a crisis. of fuel shortage.
The event shows once again the priorities of the government, which strives to maintain the image of a healthy and normal economy that has space for cultural activities, while its inhabitants fight against the deficiencies of the most basic things, without public transportation and sometimes without ambulances, without food as basic as milk for children, and with continuous blackouts.
