The first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, and the president of the United Russia party, Dmitri Medvedev, reviewed here today the progress of bilateral political relations.
At the meeting, both authorities highlighted with satisfaction the results achieved between the political organizations to date, and the work potential presented for their development in the future.
Russia has a warm attitude towards Cuba and its leaders. “Although it is brutally cold outside, this cold does not interfere with our warm relationships. Once again we warmly welcome you to the Russian Federation,” said the vice president of the Security Council.
Medvedev asked Díaz-Canel to “convey greetings and best wishes to Army General Raúl Castro.” “We spent a lot of time together in different places. The firmness with which he defends Cuba’s positions has always been for us a very serious symbol of how to fight for the independence of his country.
The former Russian president wished the head of state of the Caribbean nation a successful stay in the Slavic country and congratulated him on the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Soviet Union and Cuba.
Prior to this meeting, the Antillean president, on his second day of visiting the Eurasian giant, paid honors to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at the monument erected in his honor in the Sokol district of Moscow.
He will also participate in the expanded format meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council as the leader of an observer country.
