He Center for Transfusion, Tissues and Cells of Malaga (CTTC) continues the celebration of World Blood Donor Day with a special collection of blood and plasma that will take place on June 14 and 15 at its facilities in the Hospital Civil from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. To donate plasma it is convenient to make an appointment (from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) by calling 951034120/21.
To facilitate access, those people who come to donate to the CTTC can park at the Civil Hospital for free after the presentation of sealed ticket. The Transfusion Center thus continues with the acts of celebration of the World Blood Donor Daywhich began on Monday 12 with a delivery of diplomas and badges to donors and collaborating institutions in the promotion of blood and bone marrow donation.
World Blood Donor Day is celebrated on June 14th. This year the motto chosen Donate blood, donate plasma, share life, share it frequently, referring to patients who need transfusion support forever and underlining the role that everyone can play by donating blood or plasma. It also stresses the importance of donating blood or plasma regularly to create a safe and sustainable supply of blood and blood products that it can always be available so that all patients who need it can receive treatment in a timely manner.
The Transfusion Center of Malaga supplies all the blood needed by the health centers of the province, both public and private. In the case of the province, to meet this demand it is necessary that they go to donate blood every day 250 personas.
In Malaga during the first five months of this 2023 and until May 31, they have obtained 20,713 donations (19,806 blood donations and 907 plasma), a similar amount to 2022, the year in which 20,747 donations were registered during this same period.
During these first months there have been 2,711 new donors, 4% more than those who joined in the same period of 2022, when 2,595 new donors were registered. 54% of the people who came to donate for the first time this year have been women and 46% men.
The profile of the blood donor in Malaga is that of a male over 40 years who go to collections in mobile teams. However, the proportion changes among the youngest, among whom half are men and the other half are women. By age, the largest sector is that located in the range of 41 to 50 years, which represents 26.4%, and behind them are those under 31 years of age, a group which represents 26.2%. People in the age range between 51 and 60 years constitute 23.7% of donors, with donors over 60 years of age ranking fourth.
