CSU San Marcos presents a year in pandemic with art exhibition – Telemundo San Diego (20)

SAN MARCOS – Just days after one year under the COVID-19 pandemic, the California State University (CSU) San Marcos library presented a virtual exhibition to remember each of the 366 days under the pandemic.

“Stories and Moments: Documenting a Year Under the Pandemic” o “Stories & Snapshots: Documenting a Year of the Pandemic” will present an exhibition of art, poems and photographs online.

The exhibit seeks to focus the patience and resilience of CSU San Marcos students and the San Diego County community, one year under the pandemic.

“We hope that through the exhibition and the archives, a moment of connection and reflection about the emotions and thoughts experienced during the last year under a pandemic can be provided,” said Toni Olivas, librarian at CSU San Marcos.

The event also featured a panel discussion on the impacts of COVID-19 on the community and the efforts by local institutions to document the pandemic.

The participants and artists also had a space to talk about their own projects and reflections.

"Las instituciones del patrimonio cultural como bibliotecas, archivos, y museos, juegan un papel muy importante en el rol activo de recolectar la historia que se vive día tras día", dijo Sean Visintainer, coordinador de colecciones especiales de CSU San Marcos.

Some of the panelists featured were Ernest Cisneros, Special Collections Assistant, Susie Lan Cassel, Professor in the Department of Literature, and Judith Downie, History Librarian.
