Nick, Greg and Grissom are called to a lonely spot on a country road where workers have found a severed head. They follow the blood trail and finally find the body. It is the student Vincent Bartley. He was an enthusiastic go-kart driver and had irreparably embarrassed local hero Rodney “Hot Rod” Banks in a race. When Nick and Greg investigate at the go-kart track, Rodney flees in panic. At the station, Rodney tells a hair-raising story about the race in which Vinnie suddenly arrived without a head…
The latest trend on the Strip is Pippa Sanchez’s dark restaurant “Blind”, where guests are supposed to enjoy their meal in total darkness, looked after by three blind waiters. But suddenly one of the guests, Hampton Huxley, is dead. Since the restaurant is hermetically sealed during the meal, only the guests and the waiters can be considered as the perpetrators. Interviewing witnesses is very difficult because, of course, no one saw anything. Now the police are only dependent on the results of the forensic investigation.
Grissom and Sara have to undergo an official investigation because their now public love affair violates the iron rules of police operation.
