These meetings coincided with the attempts of Rosfinmonitoring to trace cryptocurrency transactions in the structures of Alexei Navalny, which were estimated at millions of dollars. The head of Binance for Eastern Europe and Russia, Gleb Kostarev, agreed to provide Rosfinmonitoring with the necessary information about users.
At the end of April 2022, Binance restricted all Russians with more than 10 thousand euros in their accounts from access to its platform. All such wallets were limited in operation and switched to the “withdrawal only” mode.
According to Reuters, Binance was interested in cooperating with the Russian authorities. The FSB’s meeting with its representatives was part of an effort by the exchange’s management to build ties with Russian government agencies as it sought to stimulate its growing business in the country.
