More than 40,000 euros in donations that a Briton collected for a crying German girl after the German championship defeat against England go to the UN children’s aid organization UNICEF. The girl’s family got in touch and asked for the donations to be passed on, said the Just Giving online platform on the donation page. A total of 36,166 pounds (about 42,300 euros) came together.

“In the interests of our daughter and our family, we would like to remain anonymous, but would like to thank everyone for their great support,” says the family’s message. “Our daughter would like to ask you to pass on your generous donations to UNICEF, knowing that your kindness will do good.”
German girl is mocked
Joel Hughes from Wales had started the fundraising campaign after the girl was shown crying on the screen of the Wembley Stadium at the end of the round of 16 in London and was cheered by English fans. Subsequently, the child was aggressively insulted on the Internet. Many Britons had condemned it sharply, including former English footballers Gary Lineker and Stan Collymore. He wanted to show the girl that not all people in Great Britain are “terrible”, Hughes had justified the move. Originally, his goal was to raise £ 500.
