Dear ones, Roxana contacted us with a cry for help and wrote to us that she was slowly reaching the end of her strength. “I’m so sorry to even ask, but could you possibly provide the link to our Call at betterplace share?” she asked. “We had to endure the cold last winter and now we are caring for my husband’s grandmother, who has dementia, and now the time has come when I am on the verge of a breakdown.
The care is incredibly intensive, especially in addition to looking after our three small children. I would like so much that at least the worry about the second cold winter would be off our shoulders…” We asked her in more detail.
Dear Roxana, tell me who all belongs to your family.
Our family includes me, my husband (31), our three children (4 years, 2 years and 6 months) and my parents-in-law, who not only live in the house with us, but are also the homeowners.
Your husband lost his job shortly before the birth. You’ve been making ends meet somehow until now, but now your thermal bath has broken down. What exactly does this mean for the upcoming fall and winter?
The drama began at the end of last year. My father-in-law’s company went bankrupt. My husband was laid off at the end of January (contract not renewed). In keeping with this, our thermal spa said goodbye. Luckily we have a small apartment and we were able to keep it fairly warm using the stove (my husband set an alarm every two hours so he could add more wood) and we fill the bathtub with our kettle (takes about 1, 5 to 2 hours)
Don’t you get any help from the office?
When we asked the office for help, we were referred to our landlord, but he cannot get a loan due to the bankruptcy. The office pointed out that my husband can work (our third child had just been born), so they wouldn’t help.
But then he found work!
Yes, exactly. After unfortunately looking for a job for a long time, he finally found something and we had hope. But we won’t get a loan until the probationary period ends in January next year.
Now, in addition to your three small children, you also have to look after your grandma…
As is often the case in such a situation, things continued. My husband’s grandmother suffers from dementia and unfortunately things are going downhill very quickly. At the beginning, a nursing service and a home were called in, but she was thrown out every time because she was prone to severe aggression.
After a lot of back and forth, I took over the care and the kids (with them she is a treasure and easy to trade). It’s not always easy and we get to the point more and more often that I think: this can’t be true, soon I won’t be able to handle it all anymore, if I won’t even be able to do it after working with grandma, in short to take a shower because I got some bodily fluids while I was in nursing care and then I have three small children to keep busy at home.
You now have one Call on betterplace started a cry for help because you can’t get a loan for a new heating system. Why was that so difficult for you?
We find it so incredibly difficult to seek help because we have experienced such blatant rejection from people who we thought would help us in this situation and have to listen to endless accusations (that we are not doing enough).
How are you personally feeling right now with all the care and concern. Can you still fall asleep well in the evening?
The point has been reached where my strength is dwindling and I simply can’t do it anymore. Sleeping is no longer an option, too many thoughts are circling through my head.
What is the current situation doing to your relationship?
Luckily, our relationship grows and we try to split up so that the children don’t have to go with me every day to look after them.
How are the children currently?
At the moment, the children still find the many visits to grandma fun and are looking forward to painting with her and running around the apartment. But how long?
If you had one wish, what would you give the wish fairy?
If a fairy came to us today and we could give her one wish, it would be an unconditional basic income for everyone. So that everyone who is in an emergency can see a light at the end of the tunnel…
Thank you for taking the time to read my words! It’s so good to be seen again!!
