Cruzeiro dreams of signing Everton Ribeiro (photo: Disclosure/Flamengo)
The meeting that could have defined the future of midfielder Everton Ribeiro at Flamengo ended without an agreement this Thursday (21/12). The report of No Attack found that the parties did not reach a consensus regarding the length of the contract and, for this reason, the midfielder’s renewal became more distant.
The 34-year-old player’s staff met with vice-president of football Marcos Braz and executive director Bruno Spindel, at Ninho do Urubu, in Rio de Janeiro.
Everton Ribeiro has a contract valid until December 31, 2023. He requested an extension of the contract for another two years, which was denied by Flamengo. Rubro-Negro only wants to renew until the end of 2024. Both sides are reluctant to give in.
Amidst the uncertainty, Everton Ribeiro’s name has been gaining strength in the football market. As advanced by No Attack earlier this week, Cruzeiro is one of the clubs interested in signing the point guard.
Cruzeiro’s interest in Everton Ribeiro
Pedro Martins sounded out Everton Ribeiro’s staff about the midfielder’s situation last week. The football director informed that Raposa will make an attack on the midfielder in the event of a dispute with Flamengo.
Cruzeiro’s great asset is the support of Pedro Lourenço, owner of the Supermercados BH chain, who is a football enthusiast with the number 7 and actively participates in celestial planning. The businessman wants to see the midfielder wearing Cruzeiro’s colors again and is willing to help in some way in the operation to sign the celestial idol.
Numbers for Flamengo
Everton Ribeiro arrived at Flamengo in June 2017 as part of the team’s reformulation and soon achieved idol status. He was two-time champion of the Brazilian Championship (2019 and 2020), the Copa Libertadores (2019 and 2022) and the Supercopa do Brasil (2020 and 2021), champion of the Copa do Brasil (2022) and Recopa Sul-Americana (2020). Furthermore, he won three State Championships (2019, 2020 and 2021).
In 2023, Everton played 62 games, scored just three times and provided seven assists.
Everton for Cruzeiro
Everton Ribeiro arrived at Cruzeiro at the beginning of 2013. In two years, he won two Brazilian titles and one Minas Gerais title. He was elected star of the Brasileirão by the CBF in 2013 and 2014, in addition to receiving the Bola de Ouro award from Revista Placar/ESPN in 2013.
The midfielder played 116 games with the Celestial shirt, scored 24 goals and provided 36 assists. With his good performance, he was called up to the main Brazilian team in 2014 for the first time in his career.
