Cruz Azul guarantees leadership with victory over Santos

La Maquina reached 40 points and moves away from the lead in Apertura 2024 after beating the Warriors at home

Cruz Azul, led by Argentine coach Martín Anselmi, defeated Santos Laguna 2-0 this Saturday to guarantee – two days in advance – the leadership of Apertura 2024.

Jorge Sánchez and Angel Sepúlveda scored goals to give the victory to La Maquina, which reached 13 wins, one draw, one loss and 40 points, eight ahead of Toluca, second place.

With an elegant right volley, Sánchez gave the light blue team an advantage, extended in the 68th minute by Sepúlveda with a right-footed goal from a pass from Luis Romo.
