After failing to win a medal in SEA Games 2021, Malaysian national team U-23 will face strong opponents in the U-23 Asian Cup.
The Malaysia U-23 national team failed to repeat the success of winning the SEA Games as they recorded in 2011.
Not only that, the Young Tiger squad also only ranked fourth and went home empty-handed.
Brad Maloney’s squad will then compete in the U-23 Asian Cup which will take place from 1 to 19 June in Uzbekistan.
Luqman Hakim Shamsudin and friends will meet tough opponents in the group phase.
Malaysia will again meet Vietnam, who defeated them in the 2021 SEA Games semifinals. In addition, Malaysia will also meet Thailand and South Korea.
Maloney also stated that his foster children must immediately rise from adversity and maintain optimism in seeing the future.
The Malaysia U-23 national team, which has returned to Kuala Lumpur, will depart for Tashkent on 27 May.
The duel against South Korea will be Malaysia’s opening match in the 2022 U-23 Asian Cup which will take place on June 2.
Malaysia qualified for the U-23 Asian Cup after winning the group in the qualifying phase. Malaysia is in the same group as Thailand in the session phase which will take place in October 2021.
Meanwhile, the U-23 Indonesian National Team failed to qualify after swallowing two defeats to Australia. Indonesia and Australia were supposed to undergo a qualifying match with China and Brunei Darussalam, but both countries withdrew.
