–O cruise paid off, this Friday (20), the dvida that he has with Al Wahda, from the United Arab Emirates, for the loan from the defensive midfielder Denilson, carried out in 2016. The value was 850 thousand euros – just over R$ 5 million at the current rate. Failure to discharge the charge could cause the Fox to be punished, with drawdown Srie C of the Brazilian Championship.

In 2020, even before the start of Series B, Cruzeiro was punished with the loss of six points for not having paid the debt with Al Wahda. FIFA demanded the punishment on May 19, when it won the debt. At that time, the club was managed by the Management Board. Last year, the Arab club even requested, along with FIFA, the relegation of Fox. –

From then until now, Cruzeiro sought, in various ways, resources to settle the debt with the Asian club. It was feared, for example, a new punishment with loss of points in the Second Division.

Denilson was hired in 2016, on loan. However, he left Cruzeiro after just five games, without scoring goals.

Where did the resources come from?

The celestial club settled the debt with Al Wahda through the sale of Campestre II headquarters, negotiated for an amount close to R$ 15 million. The property was attached to the headquarters in the Santa Branca neighborhood, in the Pampulha region. With the approval of the 223 members of the Deliberative Council who were voting, the property, which was used as parking by a third-party company, was sold.

In a statement, Srgio Santos Rodrigues, president of the club, highlighted: ‘We continue with the difficult purpose of cleaning up Cruzeiro and seeking the sporting result at the same time’.

Note from the president of Cruzeiro

Today we have solved another one of our biggest problems, among the many inherited ones.

The debt that caused us to lose 6 points at the Brazilian Nationals last year, which could have yielded a series C drop now, was paid today.

We settled with Al Wahda from Abu Dahbi the debt related to athlete Denilson, contracted in previous administrations.

We continue in the difficult purpose of sanitizing the Cruzeiro and looking for the sporting result at the same time.

We are counting on you!
