The cruise World Explorer arrived for the first time Port of Iquiquewhich was highlighted as an “important” milestone for the 2024-2025 season. The ship moored to Site No. 1 of the Terminal If of the Iquique Port Company (EPI).
The ship, operated by Quark Expeditions and registered under the flag of Portugal, it arrived from Matarani, Peru, with mostly French passengers. During their one-day stay, which will last until 8:00 p.m., cruise passengers will be able to take tours of the historic center of Iquique and visit the Humberstone nitrate office.
Once your stay in Iquique ends, which will be attended to by B&M Maritime Agencythe World Explorer will set sail for the Port of Coquimbo. The above will give way to the transfer of the cruise ship to Antarctica and, subsequently, it will begin operations in its base port area in Ushuaia, Argentina.
It is expected that the Port of Iquique will serve 15 cruise ships in the recently inaugurated season, which would exceed what was done in previous years. The arrival of these types of ships is coordinated by the state port with Carabineros, Navy, Sernatur, Municipality of Iquique and other services and tour operators so that cruise passengers can discover the attractions of the area.
World Explorer
The ship was launched into the sea in 2019 from the facilities of WestSEA ShipyardPortugal, and baptized by Carla Bruni Sarkozy. The work involved a cost of USD 80 million.
The ship is equipped with two Rolls-Royce Bergen engines and is 126 meters long, 19 meters wide and has the capacity to accommodate between 196 to 200 passengers and 130 crew members in 98 cabins.
