Cruelty, despair and ignorance of Belarusian border guards – a reality for migrants arriving in Poland

Some of the migrants who enter Poland illegally are lucky and end up in a charity-run accommodation center in Białystok. The TV3 News filming group also visited there, listening to harsh life stories. The cruelty, despair and ignorance of the Belarusian border guards is their reality.

The Migrant Accommodation Center is run by the charity Fundacaja Dialog. The narrow spaces are full of people, much of the Belarusian border has arrived recently. The room is so wet and stuffy that our camera lens fogs up. However, here migrants are fed, sleeped, but the future is uncertain.

Caled, a Syrian lawyer, lived in exile in Jordan for many years, then left for Dubai, from where he was flown to Minsk and further to Poland. The road cost $ 3,000, crossing the border illegally 10 days ago.

“We saw a hole in the fence and just entered! We were a large group of people, it happened just before sunrise. We had no water, no food, it was dark and wet. Very difficult!”

His dream is to be in one of the countries of the European Union where his relatives live as soon as possible.

“Anywhere except Poland! Any country in Europe will have a better future for my children. My brother lives in Vienna, part of a family in Germany, the Netherlands. ”

Amir, a Syrian, is also sitting in the narrow room. He tried to enter Europe from Belarus seven times, both in Lithuania and in Poland. Last time it worked.

“Belarusians made us cross the river, where I had water to my chin! It was very difficult and bad. Force was often used against us, ”says Amir, a resident of the Migrant Center.

Those here are grateful to have a roof over their heads, as hundreds, or perhaps even thousands, of migrants spend the night at the border, where there are downsides at night. Polish border guards report on social networks that migrants who broke into the country at night are very aggressive.

The police do not allow journalists to enter the border area, emphasizing that the situation is dangerous and that no shot is worth risking their lives.
