Cruel Assault on Ukrainian Women: Unacceptable Hate Crime in Czech Republic

The attack happened two weeks ago. Today, the court in Pilsen placed the suspect in custody.

The media reports that Ukrainian women with children visited the fair. They were sitting on the side of the road when a car stopped next to them, from which a man got out and asked them if they were from Ukraine. After that, he and another man beat the women. One of the victims had a broken jaw and nose.

The human rights commissioner of the Czech government, Klara Šimčková Laurenčikova, emphasized that such an attack is absolutely unacceptable and wished the women a speedy recovery and strength for their children who had to witness this attack.

Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakušan announced that the police will not tolerate hate crimes.

Since Russia’s renewed invasion of Ukraine, the Czech Republic has taken in more than half a million Ukrainian refugees, some of whom have moved on to other countries, but around 325,000 remain in the Czech Republic.
