CRRC Unveils the World’s First Urban Fuel Cell Electric Train

Chinese railway equipment manufacturer China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) has unveiled a new train it claims is the world’s first urban fuel cell electric train. This transport will act as an analogue of the subway, but on the surface and will move at a much higher speed.

The basis for the new hydrogen train is the Fuxing Bullet Train, which runs throughout the country. With a top speed of 160 km/h, it is believed to be the fastest hydrogen-powered train in the world. For comparison, the French Coradia iLint accelerates to 140 km/h.

At the same time, the French hydrogen train can travel 1,000 kilometers, while the Chinese novelty can currently travel only 600 kilometers. Therefore, it will be used for city trips.

It is noted that the train uses a security system with several thousand sensors of various types and sizes, which is responsible for the safety of hydrogen cylinders and fuel cells.
