No Storting gala this year for Mette-Marit from Norway

Every year, King Harald V of Norway hosts a gala evening in honor of the Storting, the Norwegian parliament. The dinner always takes place at the end of October, a few days after the start of the parliamentary term. This gala honors the deputies and the president of the Storting. For the occasion, King Harald is surrounded by all the active members of his family, namely Queen Sonja, the heir couple and Princess Astrid.

This Wednesday, the Royal Court of Norway announced that Crown Princess Mette-Marit, 51, was on sick leave from October 23 for a period of one week “due to the side effects of his medications”. Consequently, Mette-Marit will not be able to be present this Thursday at the evening. The Storting gala evening is always an opportunity for Queen Sonja and the princesses to bring out their most beautiful finery, including their tiaras. There will therefore be one less tiara during this evening which Crown Princess Mette-Marit usually attends every year.

A few days ago, the Norwegian Royal Court warned that Crown Princess Mette-Marit was resuming her treatment. The press release already announced that the side effects would force King Harald’s daughter-in-law to cancel engagements. Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway was diagnosed with her illness in 2018 and immediately made it public. Mette-Marit suffers from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, which is inflammation and scarring of the lungs. Regularly, the daughter-in-law of King Harald V has to cancel or shorten engagements due to her illness.
