Crown numbers are rising: Lauterbach is pushing for masks to be mandatory indoors

Lauterbach is pushing for an indoor mask requirement

Since the start of Oktoberfest, crown numbers and hospital admissions in Bavaria have increased dramatically. Federal Health Minister Lauterbach warns of similar scenarios in other federal states. And he asks for quick action.

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has asked federal states not to wait too long to make masks mandatory for internal use. He has spread a message on Twitter in which a graph shows the sharp increase in crown numbers in Bavaria and in particular in Munich since the start of Oktoberfest. Saturday evening he wrote: “It would not have been necessary if self-tests had been carried out prior to admission. The prices per measure would not have reached 2-3 euros. However, the development shows what will happen if countries wait too long to the requirements of the mask inside. “

In Bavaria, the incidence of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants increased by 86 per cent to 655 on Friday morning, in Munich by almost 200 per cent to 793. On Saturday morning nationwide it was 497. Experts believe that the real numbers are two to three times higher because many infected people no longer perform a PCR test and therefore are not recorded.

Today, however, Lauterbach takes a more moderate view of its earlier demand for stricter crown testing requirements for school children than other people. “We tipped, and that’s a good thing,” the SPD politician told the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung”. “That would have affected the children too much. I see it that way now.”

The number of hospital admissions in connection with Corona within one week increased in Bavaria by 71 percent to 1469. Nationally, there is a uniform requirement of the FFP2 mask only in long-distance trains and long-distance buses, in nursing homes , in clinics and doctors’ offices. Federal states decide on regional transportation, but their health ministers stick to the mask requirement there. With the new legislation in place since Saturday, federal states can impose even stricter measures on their own, such as mandatory masks in shops and restaurants.
