Crown Heights Residents and Community Leaders Speak Out Against Street Violence Following Three Fatal Shootings

Crown Heights residents and community leaders are speaking out against street violence after three fatal shootings shocked the Brooklyn neighborhood last week.

One of the victims was 13-year-old Troy Gil, who was killed near his home Thursday night.

The vigil was organized by the District 77 Community Council.

Leaders say they are focusing on developing more outreach programs to try to curb the violence.

In this regard, the community president of that district, Brian Saunder, said that it is a time where so many things happen on the street that people are afraid to leave their homes.

Gill was shot while walking home after a Nets game at Barclays Center. This event occurred a day after a 33-year-old man was killed approximately a mile away, and days before a warehouse worker was shot to death.

To date, no arrests have been made in any of these shootings.
