Crowded in the stores, the Montpellier Polygone scrupulously respects the gauge

Restaurants, bars, theaters, cinemas are closed but a few days before Christmas, shops are stormed, especially large shopping centers such as the Polygone in Montpellier (Hérault). An affluence that arouses some reviews on social networks. “We are totally in the nails” answers Roger Naro the director of the shopping center who says he has doubled the number of security guards.

4,980 people maximum

The center covers an area of 42,000 m2 on 3 levels, so it can accommodate a maximum of 4,980 people at the same time. Only twice has the threshold been reached. In this case, customers must wait outside.

I chose to integrate the store staff into the gauge so that we are always below. I stop at 4000 to ensure better comfort for customers explains the manager

The management of flows inside the shopping center is done by the shops, some of which have security guards and must also comply with a gauge of 1 customer for 8 m2.

Where there are large queues, our guards can help them if necessary but overall we have not encountered any stress, the customers are calm, it was more difficult during the deconfinement of May, underlines Roger Naro .

To avoid the crowd, the Polygon encourages shops to open from 8 a.m. instead of 10 a.m. usually. otherwise parking is free 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
