In this regard, what exactly is a fetish?

Answering this question, Kompas.com contacted Dr. Alvina, Sp.KJ, psychiatrist specialist from Primaya Hospital, West Bekasi.

Fetish is an inanimate object, “Alvina told Kompas.com on Friday (31/7/2020).

Meanwhile, fetishim is the use of non-living objects as a method to make a person sexually aroused.

Alvina said, fetishism might occur when the child becomes a victim or the child sees deviant sexual behavior.

“There is another theory which says that a person may experience a lack of sexual contact and thus seek gratification in another way,” he said.

“There is also a theory that says, in men who experience fetishism there is doubt about his masculinity or fear of rejection. So he uses non-living objects to give him sexual satisfaction,” he added.

In other words, this sexual deviant behavior can develop from children or when someone enters puberty.

In general, sexual deviations like this are more experienced by men than women.

Alvina said, fetishism is not necessarily a mental disorder as long as it does not cause distress and tidang causes dysfunction.

To meet the criteria for mental disorders, a person with fetishism must experience significant distress and dysfunction such as feeling disturbed or suffering with his condition.

“When it becomes a disorder, the diagnosis becomes a fetihistic disorder,” Alvina said.
