Banda Aceh (ANTARA) – Various government sectors at Aceh province and district/city level are committed to the success of the National Immunization Week (PIN) sub-district in managing the polio epidemics (KLB) in Aceh.
“This advocacy aims to form a commitment to work together, determined to succeed in sub-PIN for polio prevention,” Aceh Health Service Chief Hanif said in Banda Aceh on Friday.
Elements involved in this effort range from the Governor of Aceh, the Ulema Advisory Council (MPU), the Aceh Regional Secretary, the PKK Mobilization Team, the Chief of the Health Service, the Education Bureau, the Regional Ministry of Religion, the Office for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (DP3A).

In addition, the Community and Gampong Empowerment Service (DPMG), Regional Planning and Development Agency, Dayah Education Office, People’s Privilege and Welfare Office of Aceh Regional Secretariat, PB Aceh Daya Ulama Association and the regents and mayors of 23 districts/cities in Ace.
Points underlined are full support for the implementation of sub-PIN polio to stop the spread of the polio virus in Aceh and increasing coverage of comprehensive routine immunization as one of the efforts to protect every Acehnese child from preventable diseases from the immunization (PD3I).
This pledge was signed directly by the head of the institution or his representative.

Hanif explained that polio case management could not only rely on the health agency, but also involve a number of community leaders and religious leaders, because this was related to the invitation of the community.
“When it comes to injecting, giving medical care, we have no problem, but this is inviting community, giving understanding, so this has to be done together,” Hanif said.
With this commitment expected Immunization in Outbreak Response (ORI) the first phase which will take place in Pidie next week and throughout Aceh starting December 5 can be fine.

ORI targets children under the age of 13 across Aceh, aiming to reach 95%. Especially for Pidie, the goal for children to get polio immunization is about 100,000 people.
“With this shared commitment, I am sure we can be successful. ORI in Pidie and throughout Aceh, hopefully there is no problem,” she said.
As known, Aceh Health Service has registered four cases of polio in Aceh which were detected in Mane area, Pidie Regency. In one area, the four children are yet to undergo treatment at theZAZAEL Abidin Regional General Hospital in Banda Aceh.
“The first case is undergoing physiotherapy, while the other three cases are at home because they are asymptomatic,” said Iman Murahman, head of disease prevention and control (P2P) at the Aceh health bureau.
According to Iman, the four children who were infected with the polio virus did not have a complete background immunization history, so they were at a very high risk of contracting the virus.
