The incident occurred with less than a kilometer to go. Fortunately, Syrstad was able to parry the situation without losing so much time.
Syrstad then drove to the finish almost four minutes ahead of compatriot Johan Hoel and Alvar Myhlback.
The environmental organization tells Expressen Restore wetlands that they take on the action.
– The plan was to somehow jump onto the track, pick up our banners and create a disturbance so that the riders would have to take a detour, says Roxy Farhat, spokesperson for Restore Wetlands.
The police were forewarned
The head of arrangements for the Vasaloppet, Magnus Locken, said after the race that the police had been warned that this could happen.
– Of course we think it’s regrettable. We want to look at what is happening and make an evaluation. We and the police must talk together about how we can work with that issue, says Magnus Locken.
What can you do to prevent this?
– We are actively working with the police and internally with the security issues around it and are looking at how we can be more efficient and faster in these matters.
“You get really pissed off”
The police in the Bergslagen region announce that three people are suspected of violating the public order law after the incident. The police also write that the people have been rejected from the scene.
SVT later discussed the situation in the studio.
– You get really pissed off. Imagine if five of them had come in and sprinted for it, and then the competition would have been ruined. We don’t want to see that, says SVT’s ski expert Britta Johansson Norgren.
