Cross-country skiing: Johan Häggström falls in his first sprint final of the season

See the incident between Johan Häggström and Erik Valnes in the clip above.

Towards the stadium, Häggström was in fourth place. A couple of seconds later, the Norwegian Erik Valnes fell and took the Swede with him, who was right at his heels.

Afterwards, Valnes was anything but happy when he thinks back on the situation.

– I was so focused on the one in front of me and tried to catch him. It wasn’t that many thoughts, just annoyed. He can probably see for himself in the pictures that he ran over me, he says.

Could Johan have done something differently?

– Don’t run over me.

Häggström understands Valne’s frustration.

– But when you see the video, it’s an extremely small touch. I don’t think I go out and pressure him unnecessarily, he says.

Häggström finished fifth, but after the competition the jury decided to rank him last in the final. Valnes, who finished last, was thus ranked fifth.

In the sprint finale, the Norwegian Johannes Hösflot Kläbo was clearly ahead of the Finnish Lauri Vuorinen by 1.14 seconds and took him to the last sprint competition of the year.

The second best Swede was Edvin Anger, who finished seventh after being eliminated in the semi-finals.
