Ebba Andersson and Frida Karlsson got up early to start the 20 kilometer race in Canmore. The Swedish duo finally managed to crack the field and the top group became progressively smaller and smaller.
After Astrid Öyre Slind picked up the pace even further, it was a sextet that settled for the victory on the last lap. However, the Norwegian blew up both himself and Andersson, which meant that only Karlsson and Kerttu Niskanen remained when it was decided.
Spurtrysare
Karlsson and Niskanen were closely followed until the race and there the Swede was clearly the strongest. In the end, Karlsson was just over a second ahead at the finish and thus took the season’s second World Cup victory.
– I felt quite strong in the strike, so it was good, says Karlsson.
Niskanen was satisfied after the race, but sent a pass to the Swedish winner.
– Frida was better than me today, but if it had been an individual start I would have won.
“The forces are tired”
Behind, Heidi Weng sprinted to third place, while Andersson came in fifth.
– I really had to fight out there. On the last lap, the forces got a little tired, says Andersson.
Jonna Sundling and Linn Svahn lost track after about half the races, but still held it together well and finished eighth and tenth.
