According to Reuters, the rubber ‘chain’ has been around the neck of the Crocodile for at least the past six years. How the band ended up around the animal’s body is not known.
Reward
As early as 2020, local authorities would have offered a reward to whoever would free the crocodile from the band. But no one has ventured into the seemingly risky chore so far. Until a man named Tili took action.

To Reuters, the 35-year-old resident of Sulawesi tells how he made multiple attempts to catch the crocodile. The first two times failed. After that, it was bite. The man had success with a self-made trap, a piece of rope with a heavy block of wood attached to it. He used ducks and chickens as bait.
‘Everyone was scared’
“I caught the crocodile all by myself,” Tili proudly declared. “I asked for help but everyone was too afraid to join.”Photos of the rescue operation (see below) show how he apparently still got the necessary people by his side. Several hundred villagers would have come to see how Tili sawed off the band from the crocodile’s neck.
The crocodile was released shortly after removing the piece of rubber. “I can’t watch animals suffer,” Tili explained why he had intervened. “Even if it was a snake, I would still help.”
