Costa Rican soccer player Jesús Alberto López Ortiz, who played for amateur club Deportivo Rio Cañas, has died after being attacked by a crocodile. About it informs The Sun.

Tragedy struck in the Cañas River in the province of Guanacaste when Ortiz decided to take a dip in the water on a hot day. To get the body of a 29-year-old young man, the police had to shoot the crocodile.

Ortiz is survived by two children, eight and three years old. It is noted that the family has appealed to the public to help pay for the costs of the player’s funeral, while his team’s head coach Luis Carlos Montes is also organizing a fundraiser.

The funeral took place on August 1st. According to Facebook (the owner of the social network, the Meta company is recognized as an extremist organization in Russia and banned) Deportivo Rio Cañas, they were visited by more than a thousand people.
