Croatia’s ex-national player Nikola Kalinic (35) is taking a break from football. After six months without “round leather”, the striker is lacing up boots again for his former club Hajduk Split.

Ex-national player plays for free!
During his career, the Croatian was under contract for the top clubs AS Roma, Atlético Madrid and AC Milan, among others. In the summer of 2022, he ended his involvement in Italy with Hellas Verona to return to his youth club in Split for the first time.
In the summer he announced that he was taking a break from football. But now back to Hajduk. The club announced this on Wednesday. Kalinic has been in individual training since November. He even gets “his” shirt number “9” back from Aleksandar Trajkoviski.
But his return is not entirely selfless. Hajduk are at the top of Croatia after 19 matchdays. Hajduk last won the title in 2005. Kalinic won the cup twice with Hajduk, but was unable to win a championship title at any of his positions. Maybe this season with Hajduk?
Kalinic was a member of the Croatian national team for many years (42 international matches) and took part in three European Championship finals (2008, 2012, 2016). At the 2018 World Cup, he was sent home after the preliminary round for disciplinary reasons.
