Croatia vacation: Minister Vili Beroš asks Vienna for indulgence

You wanted to point out the possibility that a partial travel warning would be good for all sides. Your numbers should not have impressed in Vienna.

Let me explain it like this: We have 21 regional administrative units (counties, note) in Croatia, in which we monitor Covid-19 developments on a daily basis. In twelve we have a very low number of new infections: fewer than ten. In three even only one case of infection, and in three other counties three cases each. These data clearly indicate that Croatia should be partially viewed from county to county and under no circumstances should it be declared a single corona hotspot.

Will you try your luck in Vienna again?

At least at the weekend we started sending our new figures to Vienna every day. A partial travel warning would also be a very good decision in the interests of Austrian holidaymakers.

In Austria it is criticized that Croatia has not learned anything from the Corona clusters Ischgl and Sankt Wolfgang. Do you understand the criticism?

It is true that we recently recorded a higher number of new infections in the city of Zagreb and in the Split-Dalmatia County compared to the other regions. Currently, all indicators suggest that nightclubs are the main starting points for infections. We therefore ordered even stricter protective measures on Saturday. These are intended to limit the possibility of large gatherings in the clubs. We expect these measures to show their first effects in the next few days and to help reduce the number of infections.

Will that be enough?

Of course, we also know that a lot depends on the behavior and personal decisions of every single Croatian citizen and holiday guest. That is why I have already appealed to young people in particular: You can come to Croatia at any time and have fun, provided you comply with all self-protection measures. Again, there is nothing to be unduly concerned about. We constantly monitor the situation on site, and we also see that most Croatians and holidaymakers are very responsible.
