A website allowing users to monitor and compare prices of products in three retail chains in Croatia will start operating next week, the advisor to the Minister of Economy, Jurica Lovrinčević, announced as quoted by Hina and BTA.
The so-called “white list” will include 300 products in 80 categories and users will be able to compare prices after December 31, 2022.
On January 1 this year, Croatia became the 20th member of the eurozone and the 27th Schengen country, the first time an EU member state joined both associations on the same day. After the introduction of the euro in the Croatian market, a certain increase in the price of goods and services was noticed, which led to dissatisfaction among consumers and the adoption of measures by the government against unjustified price increases. The “white list” was proposed as a measure to prevent companies and service providers from taking advantage of the switch from the kuna to the euro and raising their prices.
On the new website, traders will be able to update price information daily, but Lovrincevic suggests they will do so once a week. He believes other retailers will also join the campaign.
Lovrinčević also said that the government’s initiative for this “white list” is effective and the prices of 1,200 products in the three retail chains have remained unchanged since January 1.
