Criticizes world leaders for UN speech

In an interview with Swedens radio criticizes Greta Thunberg’s world leaders for their behavior, after the speech she gave during the UN extraordinary climate summit last year.

In a series called Summer at P1, Thunberg opens up the time before and after she was on the podium at the UN in September last year.

– Presidents, prime ministers, kings and princesses came and wanted to talk to me. They saw me, and suddenly saw a chance that they could take a picture with me to their Instagram account, with the hashtag #savetheplanet, she says.

– It seemed as if for a moment they had forgotten to be ashamed that their generation disappointed future generations. Maybe it helps them sleep at night, she continues.

Merkel stood in a selfie queue

In the interview, Thunberg explains about the hours just before going up to the podium.

Several reputable people wanted to talk to her, something she had prepared for. Among them was German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

– She came over to me, took a picture and asked if it was okay for her to post it on social media. And then there is a queue, she explains.

According to Thunberg, such things happen all the time.

– People just want to stand next to me and other climate activists to better themselves. It’s something I really don’t like, because it’s not the kind I want to be. They post it on social media and make them look good. It makes them seem like they care, she says.

emotionally

Thunberg became very emotional during his appeal, and the words left by people were “how dare you”.

– The only message that seems to have been remembered is “how dare you”, she says in her program, Summer at P1.

On the other hand, her most important message was that “we do not accept these odds,” referring to the remaining CO2 budget for humanity.

She hopes that changes that have been made during the corona pandemic will encourage more impetus to global warming.
