The Rettungsgasse is increasingly becoming a promenade, including on Salzburg’s motorways. The emergency services observe that. The police have issued an urgent warning of the dangers posed by inquisitive and reckless car drivers and passengers.

In principle, the emergency lane works better and better in the event of accidents or, for example, traffic jams caused by a breakdown, but apparently a new, dangerous problem arises: more and more often police officers have to watch drivers get out in the emergency lane, stretch their legs, take a break or just look at something is going.
“When a driver is in the emergency lane, he usually gets out of the car after two or three minutes – often with children and dog. Then we see what is going on. Then people smoke or eat and drink. And so suddenly there are a lot of people standing in the emergency lane, ”says Werner Baier, the head of the motorway police in Anif (Flachgau).
“Entering the Autobahn is a punishable offense”
Open car doors, individual pedestrians, even groups of people – often far away from their own vehicle – would endanger themselves and others. “The danger does not only exist for those standing on the road, but also for emergency vehicles, for example. That is dangerous and not allowed, ”warns Baier.
The motorway police therefore urgently advise you to stay in your car in such cases. In addition, there is a risk of fines of at least 25 euros when entering the motorway.
