Criticism of Israeli Supreme Court decision to expel 1,000 Palestinians

West Bank

Israel conquered the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in 1967. Since then, Israel has occupied the area, although Palestinians have some form of self-government in parts of it. About three million Palestinians live in the West Bank, amid more than 600,000 Israeli settlers. Under international law, the settlements in which these settlers live are illegal.

Many Palestinians see the West Bank as part of their future state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, even though the chances of that happening are shrinking. Serious peace negotiations between Israeli and Palestinian leaders have not happened in over a decade.
