Johan Derksen was disturbed by statements made after the match between NEC and Ajax. The attacker responded to criticism he received after his red card in the Europa League match against Olympique Marseille. According to Berghuis, this criticism came from ‘people with double agendas’, who do not know him personally.
According to Derksen, Berghuis has adopted a ‘victim role’. “But those football players need to be explained what journalism means. For example, he says: ‘Those people don’t know me.’ Yes, this allows them to judge objectively. When you get to know someone very well, all objectivity disappears,” Derksen said on Today Inside on Monday evening. “It is very good that people who write reviews have little contact with football players. Otherwise you have a soft spot for one and less for the other.”

Writer and columnist Özcan Akyol believes that Berghuis showed too little empathy with Joaquin Correa, who took his tackle on Thursday. “What I thought was rude – and that’s another euphemism – that boy from Marseille was really injured, and then you insist that you didn’t experience it that way. According to Berghuis, it was not even yellow (Berghuis said he doubted a yellow card, ed.). When you see him injured like that, how can you maintain that you didn’t commit a foul? Then there is something wrong with your mind.”
According to Akyol, Berghuis should no longer appear in front of the camera. “I think Ajax’s press secretary should say: ‘Boy, don’t go to those interviews, you only say stupid things.'”
Derksen calls Berghuis a ‘recidivist’. “He has this twice a season, something crazy like that. Then he goes into tilt. I can also see in his mind that he hates the fact that he is now playing with lesser footballers. He sometimes shakes his head about the level.” Akyol responds: “This is an open question. Does that make you a bad person?” Then adding: “It’s never his fault, it’s always others’ fault.”
