– There is already a panic on the market, everyone is trying to find a way to provide something, so the price of MDI has increased and is increasing every week, said Alexei Gorokhov, president of the association of construction board representatives, to the Russian portal RBK. MDI (methylene diphenyl diisocyanate) is a key ingredient in the production of polyurethane foams, sealants, self-leveling floors, pipes, refrigeration components and car parts.
Gorokhov warns that existing supplies of MDI will last about two months, and that any shortage would have serious consequences. – These are jobs, these are people who should be paid, but companies will not be able to provide them – he emphasizes.

The sanctions forced producers in the US, the EU and Japan to halt deliveries of MDI. Even China’s largest producer, Wanhua Chemical Group, has stopped exporting to Russia. Efforts to conclude a contract with the Saudi company Sadara Chemical were unsuccessful. Russian entrepreneurs asked the government to help in negotiations with China and Saudi Arabia to resume the supply of MDI.
