Cristóbal Castro shone at the 2023 South American School Games – La Discusión

Table tennis in Chillán Viejo has become a strategic sport. For this reason, the emergence of promises from the seedbed has not stopped in recent years.

One of them is the talented Cristóbal Castro, who won three medals in the recent XXVII South American School Games 2023, held in Santiago.

The player from the Chillán Viejo Table Tennis Association won the silver medal in the men’s doubles, partnering with Alonso Pacheco.

Meanwhile, he won the bronze medal in the men’s team competition, along with Pacheco and in the mixed doubles, partnering with Francisca Paredes, showing great versatility and synergy with his teammates.

Unforgettable

“Winning these medals is something I will never forget. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot. I hope to continue like this in the next tournaments,” confessed Cristóbal Castro, who also shone in the national tournaments, this season as he is already coming to an end.

His coach, Alexis Vergara, stressed that “these games have been a great experience for Cristóbal and the entire team. His medals reflect his talent and the effort he has made. “We are very proud and confident that he will continue to grow in his sports career,” he stated.

The Chillán Viejo Table Tennis Association has obtained outstanding results at the national level as well.

Tennis player Jean Parra was champion in the all-competitor series, while Fernanda Araneda led the under-19 category and also the all-competitor series.

“Getting my first All-Competitor title is a moment I will never forget. It is a reward for dedication and constant effort, and a motivation to continue growing,” commented Parra.

“Being a champion in two such competitive categories is a dream come true. This double victory motivates me to continue improving myself,” declared double champion Fernanda Araneda.

National team

Now Chillán Viejo will compete this weekend in the national finals for men’s and women’s teams.

“Each match is key and we are focused on giving our best to achieve a historic result,” anticipated Jean Parra himself.

For his part, Raúl Rojas, from Chillán Viejo B, commented: “It is a great opportunity to show the strength of our team and aspire to the highest.”

This weekend, the Chillán Viejo A team is made up of: Fernanda Araneda, Martina Montecino, Jean Parra, Matías Pedraza, Jaime Lama, Juan Pablo Barraza and Juan Pablo Gómez.

Meanwhile, team B is made up of: Mariam Ruiz, Natasha Ruiz, Sebastián Sanhueza, Raúl Rojas, Sebastián Gutiérrez, Sebastián Castro and Matías Leiva.
