Cristina Pacheco, Veteran TV Journalist, Passes Away After Announcing Retirement Due to Health Problems

Journalist Cristina Pacheco, who had a 50-year career in television, has died. It was just last December 1, at the end of her program “Conversando”, that she announced that she was retiring due to “serious” health problems. Although at that time, she calmed the public by saying that it was a “momentary” retirement.

That Friday, the writer also received the Orquesta Basura as a special guest. It was after the last commercial break that the journalist announced to her audience that she had to retire for health reasons. Pacheco was so affected that her broken voice did not allow her to tell the news straight away. “It’s not easy and I need the public to understand me if I make mistakes, if I miss the words, if I don’t know how to say things,” she warned.

“Today I have to endure and learn to face something that life is confronting me with. It’s hard what I’m going to do, but I must do it. For serious health reasons, I have to suspend, at least momentarily… what can I tell you,” declared Pacheco, on the verge of tears.

The moved look of one of her guests that night – a member of the Trash Orchestra – was what made Cristina Pacheco pick up the thread of the conversation: “…At least momentarily these conversations (which) have been rich, fun, unexpected. Think how much we have learned from our wonderful guests,” she said.

Before announcing his retirement, Pacheco thanked his audience for their perseverance and solidarity in the program for so many years. “For me, they are dearest beings who are part of a family; Like my colleagues, they have been in very difficult moments, like this one. Thanks to you I have endured very heavy losses.”
